Wholesale trade layoff notices

In the 12 months to October 20, 2026, 3 employers in wholesale trade filed 28 WARN notices, naming at least 7,147 workers. The 12 months before had 8 notices naming 1,521 workers.

These are the employers whose industry we know from the NAICS code on their own H-1B wage filings. Together they filed notices naming 26% of the year's workers, so this page shows part of wholesale trade, and a count here is a floor.

After a layoff in wholesale trade

BLS counted 66,000 workers who had held a job in wholesale trade for three or more years and lost it between January 2023 and December 2025 because a plant or company closed or moved, there was too little work or their position was abolished. That is 2% of all 3.3 million such workers.

BLS prints no employment rates for the industry, because too few people in the survey held such jobs. Across every industry, 66.1% were working again.

These are people who lost a job at an employer of any size, counted in a household survey. A layoff notice lists no worker by name, and neither source says how likely your own job is to end. How this is sourced and what it covers

Source: the open WARN Notice Register, which consolidates the WARN listings that state workforce agencies publish. Our copy is current through October 20, 2026. WARN notices are the advance filings that employers with roughly 100 or more employees send to state agencies before a layoff or closure, typically 60 days ahead. Each entry is a filing: headcounts and dates are as the employer or state recorded them, a notice can later be revised, and a count tracks company size as well as layoffs. An employer is placed in an industry by the NAICS code it writes on its own H-1B wage filings: at least 10 filings between the names it files under, 60% of them in one two-digit sector, and a filing in a state it filed a notice in. A code for the management of companies says how a filer is organized, so it places no one. An employer with no such filings, or one that files under several sectors, has no industry here. 93,872 of the 359,227 workers named in the year, 26%, are in a notice from an employer placed in a listed industry. A listing that repeats an earlier one is counted once, and a notice the register labels is left out of the counts. How to read layoff notice data sets out what the notices can and cannot say and why some are missing. Informational only; not legal, immigration, or financial advice.

LCA filings reflect sponsored-worker wage offers, which skew toward mid-large employers and specific occupations — treat any estimate built from a small sample cautiously.
